Distinguished Alumna Award Bestowed upon Dean Mundt

College of Nursing at Michigan State University Dean, Mary Mundt, is being honored with the College of Education Distinguished Alumna Award from her alma mater, Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI.

Dean Mundt graduated from Marquette University with a bachelor's degree in nursing in 1971 and a PhD in curriculum and instruction in 1984. She received her master's degree in public health nursing and teacher preparation from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. From 1997 to 2006 she worked as dean and professor for the School of Nursing at the University of Louisville before coming to Michigan State in 2006.

She has been actively involved in several healthcare organizations over the span of her career including the Board of Directors of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) and an accreditation site visitor and team leader for the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Dean Mundt has also served on national committees for the American Cancer Society and State of Wisconsin Board of Directors.

Dean Mundt's award honors her educational and professional accomplishments as well as her leadership in building university-community partnerships and commitment to educational practices and research. Criteria for the award included distinguished educational achievement and leadership in care for knowledge, care for profession, and care for person.

"I am honored to receive this award from a university where I spent so many of my years as a student. At Marquette University I found my passion in nursing curriculum and instruction and was able to channel it to positively impact community health. It is both rewarding and humbling to be recognized by my peers. I share this honor with my family and the faculty that have influenced me along the way of this great journey,” said Mundt.
