National Nurses Week is an established celebration created by the American Nurses Association (ANA) to honor those who work in the nursing and healthcare profession. This designated week takes play May 6, National Nurses Day, through May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale.

During this time, the College of Nursing would like to recognize the alumni, faculty and students who, through their hard work and dedication to the nursing profession make a difference in the lives of many.

The legacy of nursing excellence at Michigan State University can be found in every realm of the healthcare industry from research, to administration, to the bedside, to academia and beyond. The nursing profession continues to be the beacon of hope that touches the lives of families from infancy through the end stages of life. Nurses continue to make a difference.

In honor of our outstanding alumni and in celebration of the nursing profession, in 1972, the College of Nursing Alumni Association Board established three awards to recognize our alumni's exemplary achievements:

· Distinguished Alumni Award recognizes nursing leaders who have attained the highest level of professional accomplishments, and/or has advanced the profession through practice, research, education or administration.

· Recent Graduate Achievement Award recognizes nursing alumni who graduated within the past 10 years who have obtained a level of professional accomplishments that has contributed to their employer, a history of promotion, military service, continued education, or published research or other successes.

Nearly 90 nursing alumni have received honors since the establishment of these awards. Additional information and nomination forms can be obtained online at: http://www.msunursing.org/.
